The Highland Community Waste Partnership: Reducing Waste, Building Resilience
The Highland Community Waste Partnership (HCWP) has been a three-year initiative uniting eight community groups across the Highlands, coordinated by Keep Scotland Beautiful. Together, we’ve tackled waste reduction and promoted sustainability through a focus on three core areas: food waste & composting, share & repair, and packaging & single-use reduction.
As part of HCWP, we’ve partnered with Zero Waste Scotland to help hospitality businesses cut down on food waste through the One-Month Food Waste Challenge – empowering them to adopt waste-reducing practices. We’ve also explored community composting solutions in the Highlands, with pilot projects underway at Kilmallie Community Fridge and Garden and Holm Grown Community Council to test local composting feasibility.
Through these efforts, the HCWP has fostered a waste-conscious, sustainable future for Highland communities.
